Doors and screens for a restored opening
New glass doors or a new screen often finish a restored opening. Accessories for masonry fireplaces are installed to their listing and the maker's instructions (R1001.13, UL 907), and factory-built units take a gasketed door only when listed for it (R1004.5).

Curing new mortar before a full fire
Refractory mortar and other fireplace materials set on their own schedule, often with a few small warm-up fires before a full one. The product maker's instructions decide it, and they vary.
