Gas Fireplace

Inside a Gas Fireplace Installation

We work from the maker's manual at every step, from the vent table to the start-up checks.

Vent parts from the listed system

Each direct-vent system is tested with specific vent components, and the manual lists which pipe, elbows, terminations and kits can be used. Mixing in look-alike parts from another system can leave joints that do not seal as tested.

Our pros install only the vent components named for your model, locked and sealed the way the manual shows, with supports and firestops where the pipe passes through framing.

Venting through the roof

A vertical vent rises through the ceiling and roof and ends in a cap set at the height the manual requires. The roof penetration uses the vent maker's roof piece and storm collar, sealed to that system's instructions.

Our pros plan the vertical run, the attic clearances and the roof penetration, and they coordinate the roof covering around it with your roofer so the roof stays watertight.

Ignition type and power outages

Gas fireplaces use either a standing pilot or an electronic ignition, and the choice affects how the unit behaves when the power goes out. Many electronic systems offer a battery backup, set out in the manual.

If lighting the fireplace during an outage matters to you, tell our specialists before the model is chosen, and they will point you to units and options that allow it.

Learning your new fireplace

Before we leave, you should know how to turn the fireplace on and off, how to use the controls and where the shutoff is. You should also know what to look for between service visits, such as a change in the flame or a sooty mark on the glass.

Our specialists walk through all of it and answer questions on the spot. Yearly service keeps the fireplace working the way it did on day one.
