Support for the chimney and the roof framing
A fully assembled factory-built chimney is heavy. Florida's residential code, section R1005.5, requires joists, rafters and other members that support it to be designed for the added load. DuraTech's instructions also advise choosing a location that avoids modifying roof beams and other structural parts.
