Framing the fireplace enclosure
The manual gives the rough opening, the header height and the framing depth for each model. Drywall standoffs on the unit are there to space the finish, and they are not meant to carry framing.

What the fireplace sits on
The floor under the unit matters too. Some manuals call for a metal or wood panel under the fireplace when it sits on carpet, tile or other combustible flooring, running the full width and depth of the unit.

Access for future service
Controls and access panels have to stay reachable, because a gas fireplace needs occasional service. The fuel gas code (section 604.2) adds that panels, grilles and access doors removed for normal servicing must not be attached to the building.
