Chimney Rebuilds From a Local Family Crew
Rebuild inspections are often available the same day you call, and they cost nothing.
Rebuilding to the old height is not automatic
Some chimneys were built too short for their roof, or were cut down during earlier repairs. Rebuilding them to the same height repeats the problem.
When the height rule calls for more, the rebuilt section is carried higher. Adding height beyond what the rebuild needs is a separate extension job with its own questions about support and appearance. The height is measured from the roof as it will be after any reroofing, not as it is today.

Choosing brick for an exposed chimney
A chimney is exposed to the weather on every side, so the brick has to be durable. BIA's chimney guidance calls for face brick of the severe-weathering grade, Grade SW, under ASTM C216 or C62.
Softer brick salvaged from interior walls or bought for looks alone may not stand up to that exposure. Matching color matters, but durability comes first. Brick that looks right but soaks up water quickly will not last long at the top of a chimney.
We source brick that meets the grade and comes as close as possible to your existing chimney, and show you a sample before ordering.
The space between the flue tile and the brick
Clay tiles are not mortared solid to the chimney wall. Florida's residential code leaves a gap between the tiles and the masonry, filled with air or with insulation that is no thicker than the liner.
The code also says to use only enough mortar to make the joint and hold the liners in position. Packing the gap with mortar ties the tile to the brick and can crack it as the flue heats.
Our crew leaves the required space around every tile, which is one of the details a rushed rebuild often misses.
New flashing where the rebuild meets the roof
Flashing is the seal between chimney and roof, and a rebuild that reaches the roofline has to renew it. BIA's guidance runs base flashing at least 4 inches up the chimney and sets counterflashing 3/4 to 1 inch into a mortar joint, lapping the base by at least 3 inches.
Setting the counterflashing into joints as the new courses go up gives a cleaner, tighter result than cutting it into finished brick later.
