What the crown does on top of the chimney
The crown is the concrete or mortar top that covers the masonry around the flue. Florida's residential code covers it in section R1003.9.1. It should be a cap of concrete, metal or stone with enough slope to shed water, a drip edge, and a caulked bond break where each flue liner comes through. Every storm that hits the chimney lands on it first.

Crowns that carry several flues
A chimney with two or three flues needs a crown that slopes away from every tile, keeps a bond break at each one and leaves room between them for water to run off. Low spots between flues are where water tends to sit on older crowns.

How a crown rebuild day goes
