For a masonry chimney, the key question is often how much needs rebuilding. Some chimneys need only a few damaged bricks replaced and the joints repointed. Others have loose courses at the top, a leaning stack or cracks running through the masonry, and patching those only delays a bigger job. We explain what we found, why we recommend a repair or a rebuild, and where a rebuild would start and stop.

With bay water on both sides of the peninsula, salt can be part of the picture. Airborne salt settles on brick and mortar, and once rain carries it into the wall, it adds to the wear as the masonry wets and dries. Flaking brick, crumbling joints and white deposits on a South Tampa chimney are signs that water is moving through it, so the repair has to stop that water as well as replace what it damaged.

When we rebuild, we remove the loose courses down to solid masonry and lay the chimney back up with new brick and a mortar suited to the existing work, then finish with a new crown and flashing. For partial work, we match brick size and color as closely as available materials allow and tell you in advance where a difference may show.

A rebuild leaves the chimney open for a time, so we cover it at the end of each work day and haul away the old brick and debris. A hose water test is part of the job only when the source of a leak still needs confirming. The scope and price are agreed upfront, free of hidden fees.
