Repairs the chimney may need before relining
A new liner does not cancel every defect around it. The manufacturer instructions we follow say defects found during preparation are repaired before relining, unless the lining system itself is what corrects them.
Loose bricks at the top, open joints and a cracked crown are usually separate repairs. A broken clay tile inside the flue may be something the new liner replaces.
Our estimate separates the two kinds of work, so you can see which items the liner handles and which need their own repair.
One wood-burning appliance per flue
Liner instructions allow only one solid-fuel heater to connect into a flue, and that flue may not be shared with gas or oil appliances. A wood stove and a second appliance each need their own passage.
The Florida Building Code adds that the space around a chimney liner shall not be used to vent any other appliance. Running a second connector into the old flue beside a new liner is not allowed.

The label that records what the flue is for
A relined flue can carry a small permanent label near the connector. Florida's code requires one when the new lining material sits outside the standard lining list. The label states which appliance and fuel the flue is for and warns against connecting other types.
Liner makers supply a label of their own, with the brand, the manufacturer, the installation date and the intended use recorded on it.

Ending a new liner inside a masonry crown
Some relined chimneys finish in a masonry crown with a short clay tile at the top. In that detail, the instructions call for the liner to reach at least four inches into the tile, with a listed rain cap fitted to the tile.
BIA's residential chimney guidance adds that the flue liner should stand at least two inches above the top of the cap.
