A cricket behind a wide chimney
A cricket is required by the state code on the uphill side of a chimney measuring more than 30 inches parallel to the ridge, unless the chimney meets the ridge itself. The cricket is a small ridge that splits water around the chimney.
Without one, water and debris collect behind the chimney and sit against the brick and flashing. The code has the cricket flashed and counterflashed like any other chimney joint.
If your chimney needs a cricket and has none, we include it in the rebuild plan.
Making the rebuilt top match the chimney below
A rebuilt section sits on top of the old brick, so the join is visible from the street. Brick size, color, texture and mortar color all affect how well it blends.
BIA advises using mock-ups or sample panels when choosing brick to match existing work. Even a good match looks newer until it weathers. Where the chimney is seen from the street, the finish is agreed before any brick is ordered.

Scaffolding, debris and the yard during a rebuild
Rebuilding means lowering old brick and raising new material safely. Depending on the roof and the chimney height, that may mean roof anchors, ladders or scaffolding.
Let us know about side access, gates, pools, garden beds or a shared driveway. We plan a route and protect roofing, gutters and landscaping along it. Work areas are left tidy and safe at the end of each day, with loose material secured.
