Planning the vent route
Each direct-vent model comes with a vent table that ties how high the pipe rises to how far it can run sideways, and it limits the number of elbows. The route has to fit inside those limits from the back or top of the unit to the outside.

Soffits, porches and vinyl siding near the vent
Vent caps near a soffit, under a porch roof or beside vinyl siding need extra care. The clearance table treats ventilated and unventilated soffits differently, and some makers add warnings about vinyl soffits and siding close to the termination.
Our specialists check each of those details on the outside wall and choose a location, or a listed accessory, that keeps the termination within the manual's rules.
The mesh barrier over the glass
Fireplace glass on a gas unit runs hot enough to cause burns. The 2015 revisions of ANSI Z21.88 and ANSI Z21.50 brought in a barrier requirement for units whose glass passes a set temperature, which is why many newer models ship with a mesh screen in front.
