The crown sheds water off the top of a masonry chimney, the cap covers the flue opening and the flashing seals the roof line. Section R1003.9.1 of the Florida residential code describes the crown as sloped, with a drip edge, and separated from the flue liners by a caulked bond break, a different part from the flashing below it.
