New glass doors or a new screen often finish a restored opening. Accessories for masonry fireplaces are installed to their listing and the maker's instructions (R1001.13, UL 907), and factory-built units take a gasketed door only when listed for it (R1004.5).

Taking old paint off fireplace brick
Removing paint from brick is slow, careful work, and it does not always bring back a perfect face, since paint often covers stains or repairs. A test patch shows what lies underneath before the whole face is stripped.
