Birds nesting in the flue
Chimney swifts nest inside masonry chimneys, and they are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. An active nest with eggs or young may not be disturbed, so the sweep has to wait until the birds have left, and the flue is then cleaned and capped.
If you hear chirping or rustling in the chimney, do not light a fire to drive the birds out. Call our University team, and we will tell you what can be done now and book the cleaning for the right time.
